How to pick a domain name people will actually remember
Picking a domain name is one of those tasks that feels simple until you actually sit down to do it. Every short, memorable .com you can think of is already taken — so the real skill is in combining words deliberately rather than guessing randomly.
Start with one strong word
Pick a word that captures the core of what you’re building. Avoid generic terms like “app” or “tech” — they’re overused and forgettable.
Branch out with related words
Use a thesaurus-style tool to pull in synonyms, related concepts, and adjacent terms. You’re looking for words that pair well visually and phonetically with your seed word.
Build combinations deliberately
Rather than randomly mashing words together, decide on an order: does the modifier come first or last? “Cloudnest” reads differently than “Nestcloud.” Try both.
Check availability across TLDs
.com is still the default, but .io, .co, and .app are increasingly normal for tech products. Check a handful of TLDs at once so you’re not stuck cycling through a registrar’s search box one at a time.
Register quickly once you find a winner
Good names get registered fast, especially by domain investors watching WHOIS and RDAP lookups. Once you find one you like that’s available, register it the same day.
